I was born in Riga in 1983. After studies at the Academy of Arts in Riga I attended as an exchange student Accademia di Belle Arte di Brera in Milan, Italy.
At the Academy of Arts I used to paint a lot figurative paintings.
Ever since my childhood I have had a desire to express myself in art, especially painting. I started with watercolors. I remember myself drawing and painting since I was 7 years old, probably even before. I have always dreamed of being an artist.
I grew up in a small town in Latvia, quite near Riga. That place is surrounded by lots of woods, meadows, it is green and there is Daugava, a major river in Latvia. Nature is one of the most important subjects in my art. I have always loved to hike for hours around the forest and get new impressions for my paintings. I draw some sketches of light in the woods and later I paint on canvas.
Since 2008. I work between Northern Italy and Latvia. Also in Italy I am surrounded by nature and I still get inspiration here in the woods, especially forest. So many of my paintings are created in the woods where I am surrounded by green. Now I am surrounded also by mountains. Each time I walk in the woods I feel deep connection with the trees , silence, light, rhythm. And I feel that some things can be told only using artistic language and no words can express that feeling. I am trying to depict silence, oneness, that unique feeling of connection with the nature.
My paintings of the river or spider webs or stars in the sky are like small pieces of all the beauty I can see around. For me it is like painting a piece of the Universe each time a start a new painting. Many of my paintings are without any direct human presence. But I love also to depict human beings , their character and expressions.
I paint mostly on large scale canvas.
